The Abridged Story of Us

It all began in Kindergarten...

Oh, we're such babies! Did you find us? I'm in the top row, Shawn's standing in the middle row. (At one point in our lives, I was taller than Shawn!) I'm sporting purple hearts, he's wearing plaid.

I guess it didn't really begin under Mrs. Holloway's tutelage. We first met in Kindergarten. But we fell in love in fourth grade.

Can you really call it love in fourth grade? I guess the phrase then was 'going out'. As in, your friends would rush up to you at recess and say, "Are you really going out with so-and-so?! He said you circled yes!"

But then there was fifth grade--the story Shawn loves to tell--when he had his friend Blaine ask me if I would 'go out' with him. I thought about it for a day and then shut him down.

And then there was eighth grade when 'going out' consisted of him showing up at my locker and walking me to class. What a chivalrous fellow! He still walked me to my English class even when his Science class was in the other corner of the school and he risked being tardy.

And then there was high school. When 'going out' actually meant going out to classy joints like Linway plaza in his '88 gray Jeep with the cracked windshield. (Let the record show he still has to drive a car with a cracked windshield.)

And then, two years after college, we tested the romantic waters once again and decided to make it official.

Eight years later he's still the one. He's always been the one.
